Steps to Quick Credit Repair

Monday, January 26th, 2009

If you have bad credit it can stop you from obtaining a line of credit and affect you in many ways. Repairing your credit is the best thing you can do. If you want to begin repairing your credit you should follow a few simple steps. These steps include obtaining your credit reports, disputing items, paying off old debts, and updating your information. These four things can help you get on track with the credit scores you need.

Credit repair is very important, especially if there is something you want to buy and you cannot get qualified for it. It is almost impossible to get a loan for anything if your credit scores are low. The process of credit repair can take up to a year or more for some people. It usually depends on the amount of debt you are in and how much you can afford to pay on your debt. This process can take a little time and it is important to remain committed until you have paid everything off.

Choosing a credit repair agency may be your best solution if you find that your credit seems to be too out of control to handle. You also may not have the time in your busy schedule to work with every creditor also. An agency can help you repair your credit and they will do all of the interaction with your creditors. You can repair your credit on your own. No one has to hire a company to help them with their credit. These agencies are there to help. Repairing your credit on your own is simple to do and you can do it.

If you have a lot of debt that you owe you can still repair your credit yourself. You should pay off the smaller debts first that you can afford to pay in full, all at once. Some of the collection agencies will take a percentage of what you owe. Find out if anyone will accept a partial payoff for the balances. The larger debts you will need to work out a payment plan with these debtors. This is important. Remember that once you make a deal with these collectors you need to stick to paying off the debt as you promise.

You will also need to pay on the debts listed as collection items. Anything you owe on your credit reports that has gone into collections needs to be paid off. The phone numbers for each debtor will be listed on your credit report. You can call each debtor and pay them off one at a time. Keep in mind that most debtors will be willing to take a partial payoff. This means that you should ask them how much they will accept for a partial payoff. You may be able to pay 50% of each of the debts to have them listed as paid off on your credit report.

Credit repair is very important if you are hoping for a financial freedom with your lifestyle. Credit can be impossible to obtain if you have bad credit. There are two ways you can repair your credit. You can hire an agency to help you or you can repair it yourself. It does take time to repair credit. It can take up to 6 months for your scores to reach the level you want them to be at. However, credit repair is the best decision you can make.

Credit and quick fixes don’t mix

If you find yourself way over your head when you start looking into credit repair, you may not be alone. It is very easy to ruin your credit score, but not quite as easy climbing your way back up. Credit is built on the foundation of trust, and you know the saying that building trust once you have lost it is hard, well, unfortunately credit is the same way.

Depending on what type of credit situation you are in, this option might be quite enticing as some people are facing immediate credit situations that are affecting their futures and/or the accumulation of a debt that looks like it will never get low enough to manage again. You may even decide to try one of these quick fix methods to get your credit repair started and completed in one step. DON’T.

There are two ways mainly that a professional can help you with when starting credit repair. If you have let your situation get so bad that not only you have been living above your means, but you have acquired debt on top of debt, it is time to stop trying to get yourself out of the mess yourself, and perhaps see a bankruptcy lawyer to file. If you have been sinking for awhile, unfortunately this may be your only way to start again.

Internet scammers prey on individual’s hardest tasks and most prevalent concerns. For example, many people are obsessed with getting thinner, hence a multimillionaire diet industry and yet a growing obesity rate. Some situations simply do not have quick fix solutions, and credit repair is one of them.

If you do not believe this, you are welcome to try one of the many scams on the internet that will welcome you into their credit repair world, but you are only going to end up with less money (which since you are in debt you cannot afford) or in legal trouble. There’s a scenario you probably may not have imagined, no matter how much money you owe.

Many times, the credit repair solutions that a scammer will offer you in return for your money is advice on how to create a new fresh credit score for yourself. While this may seem like a breath of fresh air and a welcome opportunity, what they will not mention to you is that it is illegal. Should you decide to go ahead and do this, you not only will succeed in adding on much more debt to your nice pile you currently have accumulated, but you will eventually get caught and be sentenced to prison and/or huge fines for committing credit fraud. Probably not what you had in mind when you were looking for a fast solution.

One note of caution however, when you begin credit repair, you need to be careful not to simply place your trust in anyone. The online world is full of scammers who will not do a single thing besides take your money in exchange for an empty promise to help you fix your credit, which if you are sinking, you absolutely cannot afford.

Easy Credit Repair Steps You Can Take Right Now!

Regardless of your record or history, there are a number of quick & easy steps you can take towards credit repair. It’s never too late, and costs nothing, yet the results can be huge!

To start, you’ll need to get a copy of your credit reports and actually go through them. There are three separate credit reporting bureaus and each one will have a slightly different report.

The law now provides consumers the right to one free credit report from each of the bureaus, Experian, TransUnion, and Equfax. You are entitled to one from each company every year.

There is a website set up by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) specifically for this purpose: annualcreditreport.com. Be leery of any other sites claiming free credit reports – there will be strings & fees attached.

You’ll start your credit repair efforts as soon as you get your reports. To begin with, you want to read each report line by line.

These reports will either include a “dispute” form, or give you a web address to get them. This is the key where you will begin to fix your credit.

Make a note of each and every entry that is either incorrect, outdated, or inaccurate. For each of these, you will be filing a dispute. You will want to list why the entry should be removed, such as a debt that has already been paid but hasn’t yet been removed.

By federal law, the credit reporting bureaus have up to 30 days to verify each dispute. If they don’t do so, or don’t do it within the 30 days, they must remove those entries from your credit report.

This simple step can remove many of the negative strikes against you, and they will no longer count towards lowering your credit score. In many cases, this can lift your score by up to hundreds of points!

Repossession on Credit Report

A repossession on your credit report is a very severe mark. It will cause you to pay outrageous interest rates and big down payments.

This mark will make it difficult to be approved for any new lines of credit. Additionally, it will remain on your report for seven years.

However you can remove this mark from your credit report. First let us explain how the repossession procedure works.

When your car is taken and then re sold if the lender takes a loss you will be responsible for repaying that. You will be sued and if you are found responsible a deficiency judgment will be placed against you.

The repossession will be reported on your credit by the lender as well as the deficiency judgment if you have one. If you have either one of these marks on your credit, future lines of credit will be next to impossible to get.

We suggest you wait until the car is resold to remove a repossession. Also, wait to see if the lender sues you for any damages or loss.

Then send a dispute letter to the bureaus to dispute the repossession on your report.

You can write this letter or hire a service to do it on your behalf. This letter must provide an explanation as to why the mark is inaccurate.

Once the bureaus receive it they will conduct an investigation into the listing. They will contact the lender and ask them to verify that the account is; yours, the reported dates, and the balance.

We advise waiting until the lender receives some type of payment. If some form of payment has been received, the lender is much less likely to spend the time or money verifying the item with the bureaus. In addition, an item must be removed from your credit report that is not verified.

Rumors are that the bureaus do not check public records when investigating a mark. That is where the bureau would find confirmation of a deficiency judgment. If you have a deficiency judgment you should dispute this mark, too.

In summary, you do not have to feel embarrassed or pay high interest rates every time your credit is run. Repossessions are removed from credit reports every day.

The Best Credit Repair Services Aren’t Magic – But They Can Help!

The best credit repair services won’t set unrealistic expectations, but can take much of the hassle out of fixing your credit score. None of these companies perform magic, but the best credit repair services certainly can help a great deal in improving your credit score.

There are hundreds of companies offering credit repair services, but according to the Federal Trade Commission, most of them qualify as scams. Anyone claiming they can simply erase bad credit, or guarantee to raise your credit score, should be considered suspect.

According to the FTC, it is not possible to legally remove accurate and timely negative information from a credit report. Suggesting that you dispute all negative entries on your credit report, for instance, is illegal.

The best credit repair services don’t sell you your own credit reports. The federal Annual Credit Report laws make everyone is entitled to a free copy of their credit report, one from each of the three credit-reporting agencies (TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax), once each year, or in a twelve month period.

You can do a lot of what these companies do yourself, however for those who aren’t aware of all their options, it can be very helpful. You might be able to lower the fees a company charges by doing some of the “work” yourself, or you can opt to do everything yourself.

It is important to differentiate between credit repair services and “debt consolidators”. A debt consolidator does not try to fix your credit, but rather works to help you bring your outstanding debt under control.

This is done by contacting your creditors on your behalf, and negotiating a ‘settlement’ agreement, often a fraction of the actual outstanding debt. Then they combine these amounts. You in turn pay a single amount each month to the company, who then sends a portion to each creditor.

The best credit repair services can only help those who want to help themselves. They aren’t a “bailout” that erases bad debt like bankruptcy filing, however they can help set you on the road to improving your credit score, and in turn your financial future.
